HighLand Farm is located in Belmont, Hants County, Nova Scotia.  Our 130 acres consists of a mix of woods, pastures, hayland, ponds, buildings and 4-5 cultivated acres of organic mixed vegetable market gardens. We are also the home of Mother Oak Permaculture, a permaculture co-op and design center which offers permaculture design programs and certification.

We have been growing orgainic vegetables and herbs since 1991 with an unwavering commitment to the highest organic and ecological standards and maintained organic certification for 15 years. We believe in small scale, long-term solutions for meeting our food and energy needs. This means the building and maintenance of healthy soil, diversity of crops, cover cropping and rotation, seed saving, water conservation, catchment and storage, animal health and wellbeing, self renewing and regenerating systems. All this is based on natures patterns and staying true to the Permaculture ethics which are care of the Earth, care of people and sharing the bounty that comes with that. We use a single draft horse for much of our garden cultivations and firewood harvesting. Animals are an integral component of our farm and include goats, chickens, ducks, cows. We also have a small apiary.

We sell our produce at the Halifax Brewery Market on Saturdays, through our CSA program which runs from June through October and at the farm itself.
